Private and government sectors urged to let staff work from home in Dubai

Dubai Daily 24

The UAE's National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) is urging both private and government sector employees to consider remote work options as the country faces heightened instability in weather conditions. While the recommendation for remote work applies to most employees, exceptions are made for essential personnel and those involved in recovery efforts.

The decision regarding remote work activation ultimately rests with the relevant authorities.

This precautionary measure coincides with the UAE raising its alert level and bolstering readiness to address adverse weather situations. Following a recent storm on April 16, authorities are diligently evaluating the impact of such weather occurrences on various regions within the country.

In response to the forecasted weather conditions, the UAE has announced the closure of roads leading to valleys, flooded areas, and dams. Residents are advised to avoid mountainous and desert regions as well as maritime activities over the coming days.

While the upcoming weather is not anticipated to be as severe as the April 16 storm, precautions are being taken to mitigate potential risks. The NCEMA emphasizes adherence to guidelines and instructions issued by relevant authorities to ensure public safety.

In light of the weather forecast, the NCEMA recommends that schools consider implementing distance learning measures. However, the final decision rests with local disaster management teams. Dubai and Sharjah have already announced remote learning for all schools on May 2-3.

Although varying intensities of rainfall have been experienced in recent days, the peak of unstable weather conditions is expected on May 2 and 3. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), Wednesday (May 1) may see some rainfall and possible small-sized hail, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in different areas over the following days, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and potential hail in various regions.
